Working Horse Winery

One of Canada's most renowned winemakers has created a remarkable new mixed-use farm and winery on the site of his historic heritage family farm. The past and present merge with magical results taking organic practices to the next level. Tilman Hainle - son of Icewine's Canadian creator, Walter, and Sara Norman opened Working Horse Winery with Hainle's original 6 acre vineyard. The couple are so commited to green values that Tilman works the vineyard with a team of stury Suffolk draft horses (and are the only winery to do so), a breed developed in 16th century England that almost became extinct.

Working Horse Winery is a sustainable, organic mixed-use farm, boutique winery and vineyard that honors heritage varieties and draft horse farming techniques. The farm is beautifully located overlooking Okanagan Lake, where 30 year old heritage vines produce premium wines.

Tilman, Canada's first organic wine maker, made the first icewine in the New World on the property with his father in the early 70's and he continues to produce wines exclusively for Working Horse that are considered:

Working Horse is the only winery in North America to use the Suffolk draft horse breed in their vineyards. The winery, vineyards and organix farm are representational of a philosophy that a mixed-use farm in a residential setting can be both sustainable and ecologically sensitive. The farm is named in honor of the draft horses that were the backbone of farms for centuries.
